Governor, Mayors Call Enterprise South "Powerful" Opportunity
Posted December 2003
Gov. Bredesen joined Mayors Corker and Ramsey and State Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber Monday to celebrate completion of Phase I of the Enterprise South Industrial Park.
"This site represents a powerful economic development opportunity for Chattanooga," Corker said. "With the high-grade infrastructure in place, we can showcase the amenities that separate Enterprise South from other competitors and demonstrate to prospective businesses that we're now ready to help them succeed."
The 1,200-acre property will lure thousands of new jobs, which will generate hundreds of millions in payroll and yield new City and County taxes when the site reaches full capacity, officials say.
"The groundwork has been laid to build a stronger, more diverse tax base for our community and create high- paying jobs for our citizens," Ramsey said. "We are collaborating with the City, Chamber of Commerce, State Economic Department and site selection specialists to recruit the types of businesses that will provide the most jobs per acre of development and a higher than average wage."
Bredesen said economic development is a top priority for his administration. "Now, having one of the most sought-after industrial parks in the Southeast at our fingertips will help bring large industries back to Tennessee and high-quality jobs to the people of Chattanooga and Hamilton County," the governor said.
